The 145th Anniversary Battle of Brice’s Crossroads/Battle of Tupelo will be held June 12-14, 2009 in Baldwyn, Mississippi on the original battlefield of the Battle of Brice’s Crossroads. The event will take place on the 1450 acre Brice’s Crossroads National Historic Park in North Mississippi. We will camp and fight on hallowed ground. A walk through of the event site was made on December 6, 2008 with representatives of Gen. Crowder, Division Cavalry Brigade, First Federal Division being present. Camps for both US and CS were selected and amenities planned for the event weekend. We are expecting a large contingent of cavalry for both US and CS but want to encourage strong infantry participation. We will heavily use infantry the entire weekend in all of the battle scenarios.
This is the first of many events hosted by the URA (Unified Reenactors Association). The URA is comprised of elements of Cleburne’s Division of Reenactors, Longstreet’s Corp and the ANV with the hopes that we will soon have a strong Federal contingent. This event will function under the Rules and Safety Guidelines of Cleburne’s Division. The safety guidelines and rules of conduct for this event can be found elsewhere within this site.
Registration will be $10 per participant (military and civilian). Children 13 and under will be admitted free of charge. As usual amenities will be provided by the event sponsors, Brice’s Crossroads National Battlefield Commission and the City of Baldwyn, Mississippi. Spectator fees will be determined at a later date by the event sponsors.
Driving directions and event location information can be found in other areas of this site.
All reenactors MUST pre-register by May 1, 2009. The Federal commander for this event will be Gen. Terry Crowder, Division Cavalry Brigade, First Federal Division and the Confederate commander for this event will be Gen. Joe Way, Cleburne’s Division. Gen. Way will also be the overall military commander for the event weekend.
Current negative coggins are required for all equine participants at this event. Coggins paperwork WILL be checked at event site. No obvious paints or appaloosas nor stallions are permitted in battle.
Period attire will be required of all participants in period camps for the entire weekend. Modern anachronisms should not be visible in camps. There will be camp areas provided for period family garrison with room for period military and authentic campaigner camps on request. If a campaigner camp is desired please contact Gen. Way with approximate numbers that will be in attendance in this camp. The camp will be remote and can be a good distance from the other camp areas which will also put you a good distance away from the sutler and spectator areas. It is imperative that event staff be made aware of the possibility of a campaigner camp so that amenities may be planned accordingly. There is ample amounts of land to accommodate everyone. Please respect your neighbors and brothers in arms and refrain from any derogatory comments or statements about those more or less authentic than yourself. Everyone is welcome at this event and we want everyone to feel welcome while at this event. Keep your camps, gear and impression as authentic as possible at all times.
We have made every effort to provide quality sutlers without overcrowding the sutler area. A list of registered sutlers can be found elsewhere on this site.
Rank will be commensurate with the number of men present in your organization. Any organization that is battalion strength or higher will be recognized by command staff and that organization will be allowed to function under it’s own commander with prior authorization of the respective battlefield commanders. That organization’s commander will fall under the direct command of either the US or CS commander for the event weekend. Companies of 10 or more members will be allowed to stand with their respective commander. Companies that may register with less than 10 members will be blended with like companies in order to facilitate better organization of battalions for the event.
Artillery will be limited to an historically accurate number. Any artillery organizations wishing to attend the event must contact Col. Robert Beams, Cleburne’s Division before registering. Artillery bounty is available and information on same will be announced by Col. Robert Beams, Cleburne’s Division.
